Pirontex® in a long-term test

A direct comparison with a conventional tent fabric

At Aerise, quality also means long-lasting, vibrant colours. A striking presence, even after many seasons outdoors. We guarantee this with Pirontex®, the tent fabric developed by the Zingerle Group from which we manufacture our inflatable tents. Our long-term test shows how it performs in real weather conditions. For twelve months, Pirontex® and a conventional tent fabric were exposed to the elements continuously and without protection.

The result: Pirontex® stayed closer to its original colour. The conventional tent fabric faded visibly in several colours. That is exactly why Aerise uses Pirontex® exclusively.

Consistent quality

The Aerise standard

All our inflatable tents are made from Pirontex®, from the roof to the structure.

Developed in-house

Pirontex® was developed by the Zingerle Group and is produced exclusively for us. This allows us to define the requirements the fabric has to meet.

No compromises

At Aerise, there is no distinction between basic and premium models. Every inflatable tent has the same properties.

A matched system

The elastic yet dimensionally stable fabric adapts to the shape of the tent. A coordinated system designed for frequent use.

The method in detail

Tested outdoors for a year

How the long-term test was carried out.

For both Pirontex® and the conventional tent fabric, one test strip in each of our 7 standard colours was placed at the test site. There, the strips were exposed to environmental influences and weathered continuously for 12 months. Every month, a sample in the form of a fabric strip was taken from each colour of both fabrics. This allowed us to track how the colours developed over the entire test period.

The test year's weather in figures

The fabrics went through a complete annual cycle. Specific data on sunshine, precipitation and temperature comes from the official Brixen-Vahrn weather station near the test site:

  • Temperatures

Backlit thermometer against a cloudless sky

More than 47 °C separated the lowest recorded temperature of −10.9 °C and the highest recorded temperature of 36.6 °C. Frost and summer heat affected the unprotected fabric samples alike.

  • Precipitation

Close-up of rain falling in green natural surroundings

Around 720 mm of precipitation fell on the fabric samples during the test year. On 87 days, it amounted to at least 1 mm.

  • Sunshine duration and UV index

Sun with rays in a clear blue sky

Around 1,950 hours of sunshine were recorded during the twelve-month reference period. On 104 days, the UV index was 6 or higher, with a peak value of 7.8. The UV values are regional model data and were not measured directly on the fabric samples.

  • Solar energy per square metre

Sun shining through the leaves of a tree

Over the 12 months of the test, 1,360 kWh of solar energy per square metre were measured at the site. This value, known as global radiation, describes how much light and heat energy reaches a surface. The measured value corresponds to the typical level in northern Italy.

The result after one year

Pirontex® stays closer to the original colour

The test strips taken every month allowed us to document how the colours changed over the course of the test period.

The findings: the conventional tent fabric showed clear changes in several shades. The tested Pirontex® colours, on the other hand, stayed closer to the unweathered original.

How to read the documentation: The images below each show sections of three fabric samples of Pirontex® (top) and Oxford polyester (bottom). The samples show the original (left), the fabric sample after 6 months outdoors (centre) and the fabric sample after 12 months outdoors (right).

More than colour

For every application

Light fastness is just one of the advantages of Pirontex®.

Thanks to its properties, the fabric is resistant to water, dirt and the strain of frequent set-up and dismantling.

  • Waterproof

The dense weave of the fabric guarantees waterproof performance (5,000 mm water column according to DIN EN 20811).

  • Windproof

The tightly woven textile blocks out wind. Anchored wind stability up to 60 km/h.
  • Flame-retardant

Classified as flame-retardant according to fire safety standard DIN EN 13501-1: 2018.

Frequently asked questions

Here we explain the exact conditions of the long-term test and provide information on the properties and advantages of the Pirontex® fabric.

  • Why does Aerise only use Pirontex®?

Because we want to offer the same quality standard for every tent. Pirontex® was developed by the Zingerle Group to meet the diverse requirements of the tent industry. You do not have to make any compromises when choosing the material.

  • Can I choose a different tent fabric at Aerise?

No, every Aerise tent is made from Pirontex®. This means all Aerise inflatable tents have the same properties and quality features.

  • What was Pirontex® compared with in the test?

In our long-term test, Pirontex® was compared with a conventional tent fabric made of Oxford polyester. Both fabrics were tested under the same conditions.

  • How was the long-term test carried out?

From 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2026, the fabric samples hung side by side outdoors at the Zingerle Group headquarters in Natz-Schabs (South Tyrol). Every month, one strip was taken and compared with an unweathered reference sample.

  • Where does the weather data come from?

Sunshine duration, precipitation, global radiation and temperature during the test period were recorded by the Brixen-Vahrn weather station. The UV index is based on model data from Open-Meteo for the location. All values describe the local weather conditions and were not measured directly on the fabrics.

  • What did the test show after twelve months?

Pirontex® stayed closer to the original colour across the entire colour range. The conventional tent fabric faded visibly more in several colours.

  • Why is Pirontex® so colourfast?

Pirontex® is spun-dyed (Solution Dyeing). The colour pigments are mixed into the polyester before the yarn is produced. The colour therefore does not just sit on the surface but is embedded in the fibre. Light fastness is 7 to 8 on a scale up to 8 (DIN EN ISO 105-B02).

  • What colours are the inflatable tents available in?

The seven colour options for Aerise inflatable tents are displayed next to the tent structure.

Aerise inflatable tents are available in 7 standard colours: black, white, dark grey, dark blue, green, red and ecru. Special colours and custom colour combinations are available on request.
